Penicuik’s Churches Targeted by Thieves

Investigations are underway after two local church halls were broken into by thieves.

Two separate incidents, which took place on consecutive nights, are being investigated by Police Scotland.

Between 1:30pm on June 30 and 8:45am on July 1, Peniuik South Church Hall, West Street, was broken into. Damage was caused to the premises and food was stolen.

The second incident, which occurred between 7pm on July 1 and 5am on July 2, saw individuals gain access to St Mungos Church Hall ,off Kirkhill Road, via a window. Nothing was stolen, though a fire extinguisher was set off leading to subsequent damage of the hall. Both incidents are believed to be connected.

Police Sergeant Michele Lindsay said:

We are investigating both incidents, which we believe maybe linked.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the immediate areas surrounding the churches is asked to contact police immediately.
