To mark Parkinson’s Awareness Month (April 2017), Aaron House Care Home in Penicuik – part of the leading national provider, New Century Care – are hosting an array of events. These are designed to teach both residents and staff more about Parkinson’s Disease, as well as to provide special treats to those residents living with Parkinson’s.

The most important part of the day was treating the two residents living with Parkinson’s, Cathy Williams and Cathy Raton, to a special aromatherapy session, which is a positive complimentary therapy, as well as being a great chance to help the residents relax.

The Home Manager, Akbar Mir, also presented both Cathy’s with a special tulip brooch, the official symbol for Parkinson’s Awareness, that he’d bought specifically for them, to acknowledge their place as part of the Aaron House community.

The day was also a chance for all the residents to join in with other commemorative activities, with everyone tying green ribbons round the trees in the garden to mark this importance month, and take part in this tradition. The day was rounded off with a delicious afternoon tea for all the residents and staff, prepared by Aaron House’s Chefs, along with a local singer who entertained residents with their favourite songs.

Yvonne Guzic, Activities Co-ordinator said:

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed our Parkinson’s Awareness Day. It’s so nice to be able to come together as a community to not only raise awareness of Parkinson’s Disease but to have a bit of fun.

As the month goes by we’re all learning more about this disease, and arranging further activities for a very worthy cause. It’s a great chance to be able to support our residents with Parkinson’s, as well as educating both other residents and their families.

Aaron House Care Home is part of New Century Care, which provides expert residential and nursing care in a homely setting.
