Police Scotland are appealing for information following a collision in the Scottish Borders, which left one dead and two seriously injured.

Police, Fire and Ambulance services were called to a stretch of the A703 trunk route north of Redscarhead at around 4:40pm on Monday 29 February.

Upon arrival at the scene of the serious road traffic collision, the emergency services treated three people for injuries. An elderly woman, aged seventy, sustained fatal injuries and has since passed away. Her next of kin have been informed and they have asked for some privacy to grieve at this time.

A further two people, one male and one female, were taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and continue to receive medical attention for their serious injuries.

It is understood that both a car and a van were involved in the collision. An air ambulance and escorted road ambulances transferred the victims to hospital.

The road was closed in both directions from Leadburn, Penicuik to Peebles for seven hours for investigation works following the accident. It reopened after midnight on Tuesday 1 March.

Police Scotland said:

Inquiries into the collision are ongoing and police are today appealing for any witnesses to contact them on 101 or the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
