Lucky residents and staff at Penicuik’s Aaron House Care Home were treated to a day out in the April sunshine.

Six residents and two members of staff from Aaron House took in the sights as they drifted down the Union Canal whilst enjoying the magnificent natural scenery over a delicious picnic.

The special outing was made possible by the Seagull Trust Cruises charity. Founded in 1978, the charity offers free cruises on Scotland’s canals for people with special needs. From small beginnings, Seagull Trust Cruises hosted over 22,000 passengers on more than 2,000 cruises in 2010. A completely voluntary charity, cruises run from branches at Ratho near Edinburgh, Falkirk, Kirkintilloch and Highland. In addition, a purpose-built holiday boat based at Falkirk is available.

Aaron House’s Activities Co-ordinator Mari McKay said:

We love a good outing, and this trip was exceptional! We had brilliant weather and scenery, a delicious lunch and a wonderful time. Each one of us enjoyed it and we can’t thank the Seagull Trust enough for such an inspiring day.

Aaron House Care Home, part of New Century Care, provides nursing and residential care for adults, promoting independence and dignity for all those they support. It is located in the leafy woodland at Beeslack, in the historical Beeslack House.
