It is a new initiative usually used to fund large tech projects, however a rise in community improvement projects using crowd funding to secure funding has lead to a local organisation joining the trend to help build a new soft play area.

The Penicuik YMCA are in the process of replacing their tired, but popular, soft play area in their Queensway Hub. However having successfully gained £10,000 from the Big Lottery Children and Families Fund, they are now looking for the public’s help to finish the improvements.

Using a crowd funding service called Go Fund Me, the community can donate either, £5, £10, £25 or £75. Whilst the payment is taken immediately, you will be rewarded with four different tiers depending on how much you donated. Bronze Level (£5) will see you get two hours soft play in a month for a child under eight year old. The highest tier, Platinum Level (£75), would give you children’s party on a Saturday or Sunday with free balloons, usually worth £75.

Penicuik YMCA said:

Parents can expect total refurbishment to the highest standards with extended climbing frame and more free play space for smaller children and toddlers which will create a safe and creative indoor soft play area suitable for children up to the age of 8.

Deconstruction work has already begun on the old soft play area and the new zone should be available later in the year.
