Shaun Jewiss, an ex-soldier from Penicuik, is awaiting sentencing after he was found guilty of three sexual offences.

The 41 year old, who resided in Penicuik, but was originally from Dumfries, was convicted in Livingston for committing three sexual crimes against two women, including sexual assault and rape.

Jewiss carried out the crimes in Edinburgh, dating back to 2010, with two women. He met one of the women through the internet. Shaun Jewiss will be sentenced on April 16, and until then, he has been remanded in custody.

Police Scotland’s Detective Inspector John Anderson said:

Police Scotland today welcome the conviction of Shaun Jewiss who has used the internet to identify vulnerable women throughout Scotland in order that he could commit horrendous sexual offences.

Without doubt he represents a clear risk to women living in Scotland.

Victims often suffer in silence, however they should take confidence in outcomes such as this case and be assured that no matter how long ago these crimes are committed.

Police Scotland will listen to them and be relentless in our desire to bring offenders to justice.

Police across Scotland, and the UK, are currently running a campaign to better inform the public of rape and sexual assault.
