First AGM For Rejuvenated Association

Penicuik Community Arts Association to hold first annual meeting after SOS call.

Our town’s local organisation aimed at spreading the art bug, is set to hold its annual meeting, the first since they called for help after committee problems late last year.

Their AGM is set for the coming Wednesday, 5 June, at 7:30pm and aims to evaluate the association’s progress over the past year along with setting forth their ideas for the rest of 2013 and start of 2014. It can be said that the matter of their May Craftbombing and its impromptu demise will be at the heart of the evening’s discussions but the PCAA are insisting that all will be welcome for event. Young pianist Peter Stewart will be providing entertainment in the memory of Hanna-Rose Scott, a beloved member of the PCAA who sadly passed away. “Refreshments and Friendship” will be provided at the solemn yet celebratory gathering in the West St Art’s Centre.

First details of upcoming arts festival announced.

The September based arts festival will be called the PenFest this year. An unexpected change in the name has arisen to coincide with a county-wide festival entitled the MidFest.

Events will mainly take place around the final week of the month but other events, including the Penicuik Turner exhibit, will take place in the previous week. It is hoped that the collaboration between the PenFest and MidFest will allow the greatest offering of events across the region. Events can still be registered by contacting the PCAA.

More news from the PCAA.

We have covered the main news but you can read more news from the organisation below:

Pom Pom Power Comes To Penicuik.

Suddenly Penicuik is beautiful.  Trunks and branches of trees, railings and lampposts and the historical Well in the High Street are bursting with colour.  People feel happy.  They get the fun.  It brightens up their day – their lives!   Craft Bombing is part of National Arts Week  11th – 18th of May and is held throughout the UK and Ireland.

This is the first time it has been done in Penicuik – and little wonder, as it has taken many hands – old and young and very young –  to put the exhibition together.  The positive feedback and encouragement from the populace led to the decision to leave it up for Hunter and Lass week.  Well that was the plan.  The reality was that – in spite of CCTV – the exhibition was vandalised after only a few days.  O Penicuik!

Lets do it bigger and better next year with all schools and clubs and anyone interested in knitting, or crocheting or making pompoms or plastic flowers or fabric birds or anything else, to join in with.  It’s really great fun and it’s being done all over UK and the world – a real shared experience!

Please watch and read up all about it in detail here http://makingspacepenicuik.blogspot.co.uk/ (all the posts of May, includes our Public Statement)
