A twenty-five year old male has been robbed at knifepoint in Penicuik after withdrawing money from an ATM at the Post Office.

The incident occurred around 11:30pm on Tuesday (28 May) on a pathway to the rear of Windsor Drive. The young male had withdrawn a three figure sum from the Post Office’s ATM when he was approached. After being threatened at knifepoint, the victim handed over his money. His assailant then made off towards Eastfield.

The suspect is described as white, in his late 20s, skinny build, with facial stubble, and wearing a grey hooded top and navy blue trousers.

A Police spokesman said:

The victim was not injured during this incident, but was understandably distressed at the theft of his money.

Anyone who was in the area at the time and remembers seeing anything suspicious should contact police immediately.

Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the suspect, or who has other information relevant to this enquiry should also get in touch.

Should you know further details regarding this incident, you are urged to contact the Police using the non-emergency number 101 or if you would prefer to remain anonymous, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

it strikes me as if it is high time to resort to Restorative Justice in Penicuik. Vandalsim goes unpunished – partly because people are afraid of retaliation, partly because the ‘Crime Report’ process itself is intimidating (can end in court… and what the heck does that mean?), and so any CCTV footage (is there any actually?) is lost after 14 days.
Not so in Glasgow f.i. where a victim or reporter of evident vandalism can simply call the police and they will check the CCTV footage and get back to communicate as to whether it shows people caught in the act or not.

What is needed here to get something like this into place http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/yos-org-management-2010-feb.pdf in the light of these findings http://www.smith-institute.org.uk/file/RestorativeJusticeTheEvidenceFullreport.pdf ?

Just report anyone you know of who is a thief or drug dealer/taker to Crimestoppers. If you are out and about, record it on your camera phone and let the police know. Time to stamp out the crime in the area and make it safer for everyone.
