Penicuik’s Retail Sector Breaks Down as M&Co Bows Out

Just months between each other, Shoe’s By Shuffles and M&Co close their doors’ for the last time, leaving behind Penicuik’ disastrous retail sector.

Penicuik’s shopping area has been hit by a double blow as two cherished fashion stores close. Shoes by Shuffles ,which closed on 23 December last year, was Penicuik’s only shoe shop and occupied 38 John Street. M&Co ,which closed on 13 February this year, was Penicuik’s only new clothes shop and occupied 40 John Street. M&Co’s former unit is one of the largest retail units in Penicuik and is now up for let for £55,000 per annum. This unit is now thought to become a convenience store, most likely Sainsbury’s Local as they expand their presence in smaller towns.
