Penicuik Estate Bridge Closure: What You Need to Know

Knightslaw Bridge has closed for repairs meaning diversions are in place.

The bridge which is on the main route into the Penicuik Estate has been closed due to Health and Safety concerns. The bridge will be closed whilst scaffolding is erected and this is planned to take no more than two weeks.

Due to this closure there will be no direct or quick access to the Penicuik Estate. In a statement from The Penicuik House Project we were told the following:

During this time there will be no short and direct public pedestrian access to Penicuik House although the routes from Penicuik via the track along the North Esk or from Alderbank and past Ravensneuk Castle will remain open.

Once scaffolding is erected the bridge will reopen to pedestrians only. After repairs are complete there will be another period of closure, this is planned for around six months from now, which will see the scaffolding be taken down.

During this time there will be no vehicular access to the house but The Penicuik House Project has reassured us that if you are disabled, special arrangements can be made to gain access. If this is your case you should contact them, details are on their website, www.penicuikhouse.co.uk
