[note color=”#b9ff5c”]Update: Next have sent us an official press release and we have compiled an article click here to see it.[/note]

A new retail store is to be built at Straiton Retail Park, taking further business away from Penicuik.

Peel Holdings, the owner of Straiton Retail Park, have just formally submitted plans to build a 20,000sq ft “Gateway Unit” on currently unoccupied land opposite Costa Coffee. A document which has been made available online using Midlothian’s Planning Portal outlines details which will see a two storey non-food retail store built. It states that an occupier has already been identified and that the materials cladding the building will harmonise with the companies logo. Update: CSL Sofas are the new owner of this store. A construction date has not yet been agreed upon.

A few months ago it was reported that Next Home will be opening at the park and that planning permission had been secured for a multi-million pound department store and unto ten new retail units around the park (all non-food).

We will keep you updated with this and expect a statement from Peel next week. Next week will also bring plans from Taylor Wimpey so expect a lot of coverage from us.
